FFP2 mask EN149, a type of European mask standard EN149:2001, which adsorption of harmful aerosols, including dust, fumes, droplets, toxic gases and vapours, by the filter media, blocking them from being inhaled by humans.

Cleaning mask

1.The outer layer of the FFP2 category masks often accumulate a lot of dust, bacteria and other dirt from the outside air, while the inner layer blocks exhaled bacteria and saliva, therefore, the two sides should not be used alternately, otherwise the dirt stained on the outer layer will be inhaled into the body when it is directly against the face and become a source of infection. When not being worn, masks should be folded into a clean envelope and folded inwards on the side that is close to the nose and mouth, rather than tucked into a pocket or hung around the neck.

2.FFP2 category masks are similar to N95 and KN95 masks in that they are not washable. Wetting will cause the mask to discharge static electricity and will not attract dusts smaller than 5um in diameter.

3.High temperature steam disinfection is similar to washing, as water vapour will also cause static discharge and lead to mask failure.

4.If you have a UV lamp at home consider using a UV lamp to sterilise the surface of the mask to prevent accidental contact with the mask surface and contamination. High temperatures can also be used to sterilise masks, but they are usually flammable and high temperatures can also cause them to burn, creating a safety hazard.
